“Basically we just feel our way through the songs. We learn how to be with other people, we learn how to treat other people, we learn how to work with other people.” ~ Rock and Roll Academy Student.
In twice-weekly music classes, a “learn by doing” approach encourages personal
expression, true attentiveness and engagement through student choice. The program includes individual instruction, songwriting, ensemble playing, singing and
understanding of tone production.Basic music theory, improvisation and the ability to groove are all
priorities. Students learn music by playing instruments with others, interpreting existing works and practicing on their own.
Each class performs for and with their peers on a regular basis.
Social
Social emotional learning is a process of understanding emotions, achieving positive goals, showing empathy, maintaining positive relationships, and making responsible decisions.
Play-Based Learning
Play is the foundation of all learning, and is the path
to a child’s heart. In play children set up the appropriate context for learning to develop;
creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills.
Student Choice
Student choice is an integral element of Rock and Roll Academy. When kids choose,
kids care. When kids care, kids learn.
