Jesse James McTigue’s teaching journey comes full circle as she returns to the Telluride Mountain School to teach high school English and history – her first TMS stint was from 1999 to 2001. Jesse grew up in Telluride then headed to the east coast to attend Burke Mountain Ski Academy in Vermont then Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. She captained Dartmouth’s Division I NCAA alpine ski team and represented the Big Green in four NCAA National Championships before graduating with a BA in English Literature and Composition and minor in Environmental Studies.
Since college, Jesse has taught humanities (and in some cases coached skiing) at Crested Butte Academy in Colorado; Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont; Telluride Mountain School and St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Oakland, CA.
Jesse and her family returned to Telluride in 2008 since which time she has been taking on various freelance writing and grant writing projects as well as serving on local boards. Jesse feels incredibly lucky to not only have returned to Telluride to raise her family, but to also be returning to the Mountain School to teach. Her daughter, Mollie, will be in first grade at TMS and her youngest, Belle, will enter Montessori in 2013. Her other passions include biking, skiing and writing.
