Mark Rikkers

20170929_185111Mark and his wife Corinne Platt, have been living in the Telluride region since the late 1980’s and their daughter, Sonja, has attended TMS since she was old enough to join the community.

Mark has a diverse education and professional background. He holds two Master’s degrees; An MS in snow hydrology from CU, Boulder and an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management.

Mark was raised by educators. His father was a professor of engineering at UMass, Amherst, and his mother was an adjunct faculty member at all five colleges in the Amherst area. He has worked at three private secondary schools in Colorado: as a teacher at the September School in Boulder, as Dean of Students at Crested Butte Academy, and as a part-time administrator at TMS. At TMS, Mark worked with the Head of School at the time, Ernie Patterson, to help merge the young school with the Montessori program, secure the school’s current facility, build out the staffing and curricula through the 12th grade, and lead the initial accreditation processes with the ACIS.

Mark most recently worked for six and a half years as the executive director for the dZi Foundation, an international non-profit focused on community-led development work in some of the most remote villages in Nepal.
